Peters Valley School of Craft has fostered the sharing of knowledge through experiential workshops for over 49 years. Some people see craft deeply rooted in craftsmanship-the body knowledge that is rooted in tradition and acquired through skill building resulting in a harmonic merger of hands, hearts, minds and tools. Today, artists have many more tools and machines available to them such as: computer programs that aid in the design process and digital mechanisms available to cut, print and form materials. Not too long ago we would have referred to craft as rooted in artisanal tradition but that has all changed as fine artists today explore craft materials to their potential. This call for entries seeks to showcase works that represent the merger of hands and technology in contemporary craft. Show us what is possible when you use technology to design and fabricate components or facets of your handmade work. We want to see dynamic examples of how you are utilizing technology to expand your work and forward the field of craft, but most of all to show how the human nuance can be augmented through innovative applications of technology.

The exhibition will be held in spring 2019 at Peters Valley School of Craft’s Sally D. Francisco Gallery. Peters Valley is one of the country’s premier craft schools, offering immersive summer workshops for beginners to professionals taught by prominent artists in eight professional studios. We are a not for profit 501c(3) organization established in 1970 in partnership with the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in New Jersey.
