Having been awarded Best in Show at last year’s Bank Show, I had a solo show at the Millennium Centre as part of the award. This conveniently coincided with my MFA exhibition – And This, Our Measure.
UPDATE: One of my paintings, Still Life with Fountain was censored on Tuesday by Sodexho, the company that manages the Centre at Millennium Park. Sodexho employees removed the painting without my knowledge or approval. On Wednesday a representative from Johnson City’s Public Building Authority, Charles Edwards, concurred with the decision made by Sodexho and again censored my work. Additionally, two other paintings were removed and placed under locked storage without my knowledge or consent. Sodexho claimed that these were removed for their protection.
The Johnson City Area Arts Council, organizers of the Bank Show sponsored by First Tennessee Bank, had an arrangement with the Millennium Centre to exhibit winners in their building. It appears to me that the interest was mutually beneficial so long as the art fit within narrow parameters more aligned with wall decoration.
