Brian Coryell’s Lighting Assignment

Photo: Brian Coryell

A tripod composite using only one light source. The light source that was used was a 800 watt Alien Bee strobe setup. I also used a snoot which I attached to the front of strobe unit to control the size of my light source. Rather than having a tremendous amount of spill light, a snoot is a cone shaped shield used on spotlights to direct a cone of light over a small area. The camera sits on a tripod doesn’t move at all, but the light is moved in all different directions which is the effect, so the view gets lost in finding and counting the different directions of light. After the initial shoot all images are tone correct, then import into photoshop layered together, I apply masks over each photo of what area of light I want to keep, and at the end all layers a flatten to make this image.
